Summary

This is one of Omega's more interesting chronographs of the last two decades in-terms of history, movement complexity, and capabilities. It has been historically difficult for wristwatch manufacturers to deliver rattrapante functionality in the smaller size of a wristwatch. Such was the case with Omega during the design-phase of this watch. The original Omega design team was having trouble getting the new movement design completed on-schedule and product delivery date commitments were not being met. Eventually, a decision was made to partner on the chronograph module with Dubois Depraz to complete the design and implementation of the watch. What resulted was a rare and horologically significant modern production rattrapante chronograph with the fantastic overall design, construction, and refinement of an Omega Speedmaster. This particular watch came in several dial designs and colors; however, in our opinion this blue dial version is most attractive. The pictures should speak for themselves, the watch is beautiful and includes its original box and papers as well as all links plus extra ones.

Care and Use

All mechanical watches, and especially vintage watches, require special consideration in handling, care, and use. See the Support page to learn more about how to protect and care for your investment.

Unique Operation

If you aren't already familiar with a rattrapante or split-second chronograph, the function allows you to press the split second button while the chronograph is running and, when doing-so, a hand, hidden under the main chronograph seconds hand, stops and marks the time you pressed the rattrapante button. You press the rattrapante button again to bring the rattrapante hand back in-sync with the main seconds hand. You then can stop the chronograph with the top chronograph button and reset the chronograph to zero with the bottom reset button. As a general rule, you should avoid running the chronograph continuously for long periods with the rattrapante function enabled.

ClockSavant Watchmaker Testing, Certification, and Performance Measurement

All the watches we sell go through a comprehensive series of ClockSavant-developed functional, stability, and performance tests and are only approved for sale if they meet or exceed the criteria we have established. Performance measurements for this watch are provided below. See the Support page of our website for an explanation of watch performance measurements and guidance on interpretation. The watch performance values provided do not necessarily reflect the accuracy you will experience based on your unique watch wearing habits. You may experience a gain or loss by as much as approximately 1 minute per day with vintage watches. Legend: Rate, Amplitude (Amp), and Beat Error (BE) are provided for Dial-Up (CH) and Dial-Down (FH) positions. Averages (Avg) are also provided. These represent the average performance of the watch across all 6 traditionally measured watch positions which, in addition to dial-up and dial-down, are the vertical positions of Crown-Up, Crown-Down, Crown-Left, and Crown-Right. Rate is expressed in seconds gained or lost during a 24 hour period. Amplitude is in degrees. Beat Error is in milliseconds. Lift Angle used in measurement is unique to the particular watch calibre.
