Summary

The Omega Cosmic triple date moonphase vintage watch is rare, highly sought-after, and one of the most quintessential vintage watches of the 1940’s. During this era, tracking the day, date, month, and moonphase became all-the-rage. Omega manufactured perhaps the best of all of them. The Omega Calibre 381 - 27 DL PC is a fantastic reliable movement and this watch contains an excellent and well running example.  The case on this watch is in superb vintage condition. The case features long lugs making it feel larger and even more elegant. Robust and beautiful, the Omega Cosmic has stood the test of time and is now the prize of collectors worldwide. We did not refinish the dial on this watch but due to its pristine condition, it is likely to have been refinished. As shown in the picture, the dial is beautifully done.

Unique Guidance on the Operation of this Watch

Pushers on the side of the case are provided to advance the date, month, and moonphase.

To advance the day, there are no pushers. Instead, you move the hands forward continuously until the desired day is shown. On this watch, never move the hands backwards past midnight under any circumstance. This watch does not have a quickset.  Once you have reached the desired day, then advance the hands to 6am. You are now ready to set the date, moonphase, and month.

Do not advance date/month/moonphase pushers until you have advanced the time past midnight wherein you observe the day, moonphase slightly, and date advance, and further to 6am. At 6am it is then safe to engage the pushers to adjust the date, month, and moonphase. You can use a needle with very gentle and careful pushing to activate the pushers. You can also use a plastic, not wood, toothpick. Again be gentle and easy when depressing the pushers.

Note that the month does not advance when the date moves from 31 to 1. The month on this movement never advances itself. You must advance it with the pusher to set the month.

ClockSavant Watchmaker Testing, Certification, and Performance Measurement

All the watches we sell go through a comprehensive series of ClockSavant-developed functional, stability, and performance tests and are only approved for sale if they meet or exceed the criteria we have established. Performance measurements for this watch are provided below. See the Support page of our website for an explanation of watch performance measurements and guidance on interpretation. The watch performance values provided do not necessarily reflect the accuracy you will experience based on your unique watch wearing habits. You may experience a gain or loss by as much as approximately 1 minute per day with vintage watches.

Legend: Rate, Amplitude (Amp), and Beat Error (BE) are provided for Dial-Up (CH) and Dial-Down (FH) positions. Averages (Avg) are also provided. These represent the average performance of the watch across all 6 traditionally measured watch positions which, in addition to dial-up and dial-down, are the vertical positions of Crown-Up, Crown-Down, Crown-Left, and Crown-Right. Rate is expressed in seconds gained or lost during a 24 hour period. Amplitude is in degrees. Beat Error is in milliseconds.  Lift Angle used in measurement is unique to the particular watch calibre.
