Summary

Of all the mechanical watches made in China, the ones that command our interest the most are their tourbillons. Note the term tourbillon is often used incorrectly to describe a watch with a hole in the dial showing a traditional watch escapement. This is not a real tourbillon. A real tourbillon is a complicated mechanical movement with a rotating cage housing the watch balance and accompanying pallet, and this cage rotates 360 degrees. The idea of the tourbillon is to reduce the positional affects on the balance by having it rotate constantly.  There are two types of tourbillons, offset ones where the balance is slightly offset in the cage and a centre tourbillon where the balance is centered in the cage.  Swiss tourbillons are the finest available but can cost from $30,000 upwards and are therefore unattainable for many collectors. The Chinese tourbillons are far lower cost, reasonably well made— enough to be enjoyed by the collector— and allow the collector experience a watch complication they may not otherwise be able to. The watch we have here contains an automatic wind tourbillon— a rarer form of Chinese movement that its manufacturer, Dixmont Guangzhou, specializes in. It also tracks the day and date. The case and dial are excellent quality. The decoration on the movement is something we see on some of the Asian watches and rarely on Swiss ones. It is a hammered style of decoration, we are unsure what this particular method is called.  The pushers you see on the case, which look like chronograph pushers, are in-fact used to adjust the day and date.  The case design is very nice and we paired it with a perfectly matching lightly used watch band and deployant.

ClockSavant Watchmaker Testing, Certification, and Performance Measurement

All the watches we sell go through a comprehensive series of ClockSavant-developed functional, stability, and performance tests and are only approved for sale if they meet or exceed the criteria we have established. Performance measurements for this watch are provided below. See the Support page of our website for an explanation of watch performance measurements and guidance on interpretation. The watch performance values provided do not necessarily reflect the accuracy you will experience based on your unique watch wearing habits. You may experience a gain or loss by as much as approximately 1 minute per day with vintage watches.

Legend: Rate, Amplitude (Amp), and Beat Error (BE) are provided for Dial-Up (CH) and Dial-Down (FH) positions. Averages (Avg) are also provided. These represent the average performance of the watch across all 6 traditionally measured watch positions which, in addition to dial-up and dial-down, are the vertical positions of Crown-Up, Crown-Down, Crown-Left, and Crown-Right. Rate is expressed in seconds gained or lost during a 24 hour period. Amplitude is in degrees. Beat Error is in milliseconds.  Lift Angle used in measurement is unique to the particular watch calibre.
