Summary |
This watch was was Fully Serviced by ClockSavant. This is a stunning and highly rare and unusual Leonidas Valjoux 22 chronograph from the 1940’s and represents one of the earlier implementations of the Valjoux 22. It is highly unusual because of its large case and spectacular clawed lugs. During the era this watch was made, it was more common to see a more utilitarian approach to the design of the watch. Not known to be shy about their designs, Leonidas integrated a dressier look to this watch while maintaining its highly functional feel with the tachymetre around the dials’ outer ring. Also, the watch is larger than typical for the era, making it more visible and present on the wrist when combined with its long fancy lugs and light colored dial. This watch’s outstanding design means it can be worn with just about anything and it will stand-out as elegant, classic, and with a vintage artistic feel. The movement is in excellent condition as shown in the pictures. As an earlier Valjoux 22, it includes a beautiful breguet overcoil hairspring for which we provided a picture. As part of our servicing of the watch, we painstakingly manipulated this hairspring back to its original shape and condition. Doing this requires years of experience and practice and representative of the kind of completeness and expertise ClockSavant brings to watch servicing and restoration. |

Condition |
Watch is in unusually good condition for its each, showing less wear and aging than typical. Do note that there is a mark on the dial near the center of the dial at about 9pm. The mark almost looks like the number 7. The marking is more evident in the pictures because the watch dial overall has so few markings for its age otherwise. Typically a watch of this age would have considerable more markings, age, and scratches and so we consider this dial in excellent condition. Regardless, the purchaser should note this mark and determine if they care much about it. On the wrist, we did not find it to be particular noticeable or eye-catching. |
